The transformation of the Hammam ritual in 2021 The transformation of the Hammam ritual in 2021

“I treasure the sensorial experience, noticing how the products do wonders for my skin, but also my soul.”

Years later, I was living in Paris in my twenties when I suddenly yearned for the familiar, centuries-old beauty ritual. I asked my parents to send me all the ingredients they could find so that I could create my own interpretation in France, and they happily complied. So what did I do upon receiving the package? I looked at it, and put it aside.

Ten years passed before I reflected on those age-old rituals. I returned home to Casablanca. I was tired, much more so than usual. I was so exhausted that my sister, Sara, managed to convince me to go to the Hammam, a place I had avoided for more than 20 years, a place she had recently fallen back in love with herself.

If you are not familiar with the Hammam process, it is typically comprised of three steps:

  • 1. Skin prep: the skin is initially prepared by applying beldi soap, then you relax in a hot steam room.
    2. Body scrub: a therapist scrubs you with a kessa, from head to toe. This is to help shed dead skin (as well as negative emotion and tension) in the process.
    3. Post-scrub soak: Rhassoul is applied all over the body, face and hair then gently shampooed through twice, followed by soap.

I am forever hooked. I crave a Hammam for that wonderful body and face treatment, and a soul-cleanse. I go for the otherworldly, fresh-flushed rosy glow: inside and out.

Today, we have further perfected that Hammam ritual, mixing its glow giving magic natural ingredients and rituals with newer efficacious ones for that Hammam Experience and Performance reinvented to give “that” Moroccan glow at home.

We are starting with 2 hero products that I am personally obsessed with – Marrakech Silk, a 3in1 wonder that reinterprets the 3 key steps of the centuries old Hammam ritual in 1 decadently textured, heavenly scented supercharged polishing balm that instantly melts into the skin and bathes it in amber laced warmth, conditions it and deeply at it gently exfoliates it and washes off to leave the skin renewed, smooth and silky soft.

Then we have Marrakech Gleam, the post Hammam “light” bottled in a delicious Orange Blossom scented jelly balm that hugs the skin in the most nourishing and eye-catching touch of incandescent radiance.
